I've totally lost count/track of my dvd collection. But just to note some japanese titles I have, which are superior than other regions thanks to the DTS track.

Intro
Ok... just what we need, another site about dvd and reviews. Well, hopefully to be different, my point of views will be accepted by a niche market/viewability. How's that again? Well, not everyone has the same taste or preference for movies and by that, my reviews may be spot on only with a niche following. And I'm asian and that may count for a different palette or preference altogether. What's that again? Well, let me put it this way, what some may hail as the best picture or all-time best eg. AFI, I tend to not agree from my point of view/entertainment level. Take a look at the list of the AFI accolades and I will only pick a handful as my favorites.  I never understood how classic movies are all time best though considering they are boring and have funny acting/style, IMO. Someone should revise these lists to incorporate latest offerings. Anyway, you won't see the AFI dvds in my list. But you will see Oscar awards movies in my dvd list.

In order to know which niche is mine, perhaps I may list my favorite dvds... the more it matches, the more you know our similarities.

Firstly, the action movies, in no particular order :-

..... wait a minute, the list is going to be long... I think I better list the ones I don't like and why.....

Bad Boys 1 & 2

(I just don't like the duo's chemistry and dull jokes....it's totally the opposite feeling of the duo in Rush Hour)

Fast and Furious 1 & 2

( (again, similar reason as Bad Boys... just don't cut it for me, regardless of the action. I prefer Gone in 60 seconds or Days of Thunder in terms of car movies)

Shanghai Noon/Knights/I-Spy

( (what's with all this movies with duos... chemistry is not as easy as it seems... or perhaps the writing was bad (who knows). Anyway, they are nothing like Lethal Weapon or Rush hour)

Lord of the Rings trilogy

((ok, ok... I know this is strange. But somehow, despite the widespread mainstream craze for these movies, they just didn't cut it for me the first time I watched them. Maybe because I read some of the books and the plot is no surprise to me... maybe it was too draggy eventhough it was intentional to maintain the detail/spirit of the books.... maybe the action was too non-flashy, people swinging away with their weapons and not getting wounded or tired despite the hundreds of enemies swarming into them or perhaps there was no uuummphhh at all, perhaps I wanted more action similar to the pc games where wizards can cast more spells/magic and elves can do more wonders than just use arrows. There's just too many 'perhaps' that I can list, but overall the movies just didn't excite me that much, as compared to similar genre Willow when I first watched it. Nevertheless, the trilogy is still one of my favorite demo dvds due to the cool action and special effects factor

Matrix trilogy

... these movies however I don't hate, I love them, despite the negative reviews. I mean, anyone who denied not having the ride of their life or a tripping journey during the first Matrix movie, would probably not like action/sci fi movies generally. This has got to be the newest/freshest story in this century or decade.


Next, the non-action movies that I disliked :-

Stanley Kubrick's movies except for Eyes wide shut;

Any classic movie eg. Gone with the wind, Casablanca.... they are just so slow or old-fashioned feeling, no deal with me as a nice afternoon choice of movie.

In short, I am easily entertained. I'm not critical in judging a movie in many levels. I can suspend my disbelief very well, thus enjoying movies without worrying about logic or common sense eg. Matrix 2 and 3 or The Core or Armageddon, etc.. Some prefer to watch a movie which is realistic or has all plot holes filled to the brim, but not me ... if it's fun and entertaining in terms of action, story, comedy, special effects, etc. who cares. But things will hit the fan, if there's no original fun or x-factor or proper scripting/directing from the movie (eg. Timeline, Around the world in 80 days, Tuxedo) or just plain dumb (eg.Kung Pow, Freddy got fingered, Stealing Harvard, Eurotrip, etc.) , as you will soon realize from my reviews.
